GJA elections: Albert Sore elected Upper East Regional Chairman

Albert Sore has been elected as the new Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) following a decisive win in the Association’s regional elections held on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Sore clinched 29 votes out of 44, defeating veteran journalist Ebo Bruce Quansah, who garnered 15 votes in a closely contested but peaceful election.
The polls took place at the Bolgatanga Municipal Electoral Commission office and attracted journalists from across the region who were in good standing.
The GJA Electoral Committee supervised the election process, which was widely praised for its transparency and orderliness.
The Committee commended all participants for their maturity and cooperation.
In his acceptance speech, a visibly elated Albert Sore thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to promote unity and professional development among journalists in the region.
“This victory is not just mine—it belongs to every journalist in the Upper East Region,” he said.
“I will work tirelessly to foster unity and address the challenges we face together.”
He outlined key priorities for his tenure, including capacity-building programmes, improved welfare for members, and a renewed focus on professionalism.
“We must invest in ourselves—through training, mentorship, and ethical journalism-so that we can serve our communities more effectively,” Sore emphasised.
Sore’s opponent, Ebo Bruce Quansah, graciously conceded defeat and called on all members to rally behind the new chairman.
“I respect the outcome of the election and wish Mr. Sore the very best.
I urge all journalists to support him in building a stronger Association,” Quansah said.
Media stakeholders, civil society actors, and fellow journalists have extended their congratulations to the newly elected chairman.
Many expressed optimism that his leadership would usher in a more vibrant and united media landscape in the Upper East Region.
