Majority Leader and Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the creation of the Kusaug Region, emphasising the importance of the initiative for both peace and development in the area. 

Ayariga explained that the decision to push for the new region was based on a careful analysis of the region's unique security challenges and the potential for enhanced resource distribution.

The lawmaker pointed out the peculiar security situation in the area, which played a significant role in the consideration of creating a separate region. 

He noted that the establishment of the Kusaug Region would provide a framework for ensuring lasting peace in the area. “We have a peculiar security situation, and we did an analysis of it,” Ayariga said. “That was what led us to consider the establishment of a region to provide a framework to ensure lasting peace.”

Additionally, the Majority Leader highlighted the potential benefits of creating the region in terms of economic development. 

He explained that the current administrative structure, which encompasses the entire Upper East Region, leaves resources spread too thin. 

“When you send resources to the Upper East, it is big enough and the resources are inadequate,” he remarked. “But if we split into two and have the Kusaug area as a region, you are effectively doubling the resources that will go to that geographical area.”

Ayiraga further stressed that creating the Kusaug Region would not only address the security concerns but also provide an opportunity for targeted development. 

“This move is not just about security; it’s about the long-term development of the region,” he concluded, reaffirming his dedication to seeing the process through and improving the livelihoods of those in the area.
