Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has thanked the authorities for appointing him to Ghana’s newly established National Anti-Doping Board, promising to promote integrity and fair play in sports.

In a post on Instagram, Appiah spoke about the impact football has had on his life and his determination to ensure the game is played fairly, without unfair advantages.

“Football gave me everything, and protecting its integrity is a duty I do not take lightly,” he said.

Appiah, who is also Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, described the appointment as a continuation of his long-standing service to Ghanaian football and sports.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Mother Ghana once again... I accept this role with a strong commitment to fair play, discipline and clean sport for generations to come,” he added.

The former captain brings valuable experience to the board, drawing from his years as a top professional footballer as well as his current role in football administration.

Appiah is widely respected for leading Ghana to its first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006 and helping the Black Stars reach the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup. Since retiring from active football, he has remained closely involved in the sport, with a strong focus on player welfare and management.

The National Anti-Doping Board was officially inaugurated in Accra on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. It will be chaired by Professor Francis Dodoo, a former president of the Ghana Athletics Association and the Ghana Olympic Committee.

The creation of the board marks an important step in Ghana’s commitment to clean sport and compliance with international anti-doping standards.
