Feed Ghana begins farmer registration for major tomato season under National Vegetable Project
The Feed Ghana Coordinator and his team have commenced farmer engagement and stakeholder consultations ahead of the registration of farmers for the upcoming major tomato production season.
The initiative is being implemented under the Feed Ghana Programme in partnership with Farm Mate, working alongside financial partners and seed breeders.
The programme, known as the National Vegetable Development Project (NVDP), is a sub-component of the Feed Ghana Programme and is designed to boost domestic vegetable production, particularly tomatoes.
Farm Mate is serving as the technical operator for the project.
As part of the rollout, engagement sessions are being held with farmers and key stakeholders to outline eligibility requirements and operational guidelines for participation in the major production season.
Under the NVDP, qualified farmers will receive a comprehensive input package to support cultivation.
This is expected to include essential production inputs aimed at improving yield and quality.
In addition, Farm Mate will act as the off-taker, committing to purchase the entire output of participating farmers.
The arrangement is intended to provide market security, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure stable incomes for farmers.
Officials say the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s vegetable value chain, enhance food security, and reduce reliance on imports.
