GFZA engages apparel manufacturers to address trade challenges

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr Mary Awusi, has held a strategic engagement with the Association of Ghana Apparel Manufacturers (AGAM) to discuss trade facilitation support and address key challenges facing the textile and garment sector.

The meeting, held at the GFZA Head Office, focused on resolving import and export bottlenecks affecting industry players, particularly concerns surrounding Free Zones licensing fees and administrative procedures.

Participants also explored practical interventions aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening the competitiveness of Ghana’s textile and apparel sector within the sub-region.

Dr Awusi, together with Kwasi Ofori-Antwi, Acting Director of the Strategic Manufacturing Directorate, and Abena Gyamfi, Senior Commercial Officer at the Textiles and Garments Unit of the Ministry of Trade Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI), acknowledged concerns raised by AGAM members.

The AGAM delegation was led by its President, Nura Salifu, who also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sixteen47 Limited Officials provided detailed clarifications on the issues presented and outlined both ongoing and planned measures to address the challenges and deepen collaboration for sustained sector growth.

The engagement underscored the importance of continuous dialogue among GFZA, MoTAI, and AGAM.

All parties expressed confidence that sustained collaboration would enhance efficiency, facilitate seamless business operations, and boost the competitiveness of local textile and garment manufacturers.

Directors and Heads of Department of GFZA, as well as AGAM executives and members, participated in the discussions, contributing to deliberations and responding to stakeholder concerns.

 

GFZA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with industry players to create an enabling environment for businesses operating under the Free Zones Scheme.
