Mahama to break ground for Afienya Industrial Park - Dr. Mary Awusi reveals
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, has announced that President John Dramani Mahama will soon cut the sod for the construction of a major industrial park at Afienya, a project she says will significantly boost Ghana’s industrialisation drive and create employment opportunities for thousands of young people.
Speaking in an interview on The Citizen Show with Nana Out Darko on Accra 100.5FM, Dr. Awusi revealed that the planned industrial park forms part of a broader strategy by the Free Zones Authority to expand Ghana’s manufacturing and export capacity.
According to her, the Afienya Industrial Park will serve as a major hub for industries, attract both local and international investors, and position Ghana as a competitive destination for export-driven manufacturing within the sub-region.
“Under my leadership at the Ghana Free Zones Authority, President John Dramani Mahama will soon cut the sod for the construction of an industrial park at Afienya,” Dr. Awusi stated, noting that the initiative will stimulate economic growth and deepen industrial development.
Beyond the economic announcement, Dr. Awusi also launched a blistering critique of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing former Second Lady Samira Bawumia of exerting undue influence over the internal affairs of the party.
She alleged that Samira Bawumia is effectively running the affairs of the NPP and predicted that she would soon move to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader in Parliament.
“Samira Bawumia will remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader. She is currently running the affairs of the New Patriotic Party,” Dr. Awusi claimed during the interview.
Dr. Awusi further questioned the leadership credibility of the opposition caucus in Parliament, arguing that retaining Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader reflects deeper problems within the party.
“If you have Alexander Afenyo-Markin as your Minority Leader, then you clearly have a problem,” she said.
She also mocked the conduct of the Minority during the recent State of the Nation Address of Ghana delivered by President Mahama in Parliament, describing their appearance and behaviour as unserious.
“When I saw the Minority in Parliament during the President’s State of the Nation Address, I thought it was a school matriculation ceremony,” she remarked.
