GTA distances itself from iShowSpeed’s jollof controversy
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has clarified that it had no involvement in the preparation of the jollof rice served to American streamer iShowSpeed during his recent visit to Ghana.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Mr Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, made the disclosure in an interview, stating that the Authority did not organise or manage the food arrangements for the streamer’s tour.
According to him, while the GTA offered support in some areas when approached, it was not responsible for coordinating iShowSpeed’s visit or selecting vendors to cater for him.
His comments come after widespread criticism on social media over the quality of the jollof rice served to the American content creator.
The meal, reportedly prepared by popular Ghanaian restaurant Chickenman, sparked debate among fans after iShowSpeed rated Nigeria’s jollof higher than Ghana’s.
The development left many Ghanaians disappointed, with some accusing organisers of failing to properly showcase the country’s famed cuisine.
Speaking on Okay FM, Abeiku Santana distanced the Authority from the controversy.
“GTA did not make the arrangements, so I have no idea who brought them to prepare the jollof. I don’t know who cooked iShowSpeed’s jollof,” he said.
The GTA’s clarification seeks to address public concerns and separate the Authority from the backlash surrounding the incident.
