Okere MP launches 'Get Okere Walking' tourism campaign at Adukrom Odwira
The Member of Parliament for Okere, Hon. Daniel Nana Addo Kenneth, has launched a tourism promotion campaign dubbed “Get Okere Walking” during the 2026 Adukrom Odwira Festival at Adukrom in the Eastern Region.
The campaign precedes the maiden “Walk Okere” event scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026, and is aimed at positioning the Okere enclave as a leading eco-tourism and outdoor recreation destination in Ghana.
Speaking at the colourful Odwira durbar attended by chiefs, residents, and visitors, the MP expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities and people of Okere for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them of his commitment to continue the developmental vision of his predecessor.
“I am grateful to the chiefs and people of Okere for their support over the past year. I remain committed to building on the good work already started and to working closely with traditional leaders to advance development in the constituency,” he said.
Hon. Nana Addo Kenneth praised the organising committee of the Odwira Festival and the Walk Okere initiative, describing it as a reflection of improved collaboration between political leadership and traditional authorities.
The Walk Okere tourism event will feature a united walk from Adukrom to Aseseeso Road, a scenic hilly stretch along the Nkurakan–Trom Junction Road, also known as the Dan Botwe Highway.
According to the MP, the route’s unique landscape and improved road infrastructure make it ideal for hiking, walking, and adventure tourism, offering an alternative destination for outdoor enthusiasts who traditionally travel outside the region.
“Okere is blessed with beautiful hills, serene environments, and good roads. This campaign is about putting these assets to use by attracting tourists, hikers, and investors into the enclave,” he stated.
He explained that increased tourist activity would stimulate local economic growth through hospitality, transport, food vending, tour guiding, and other small-scale enterprises, while also driving sustained interest in the constituency.
The MP further invited investors to consider opportunities in Okere, describing the area as an emerging destination with strong potential in tourism and allied businesses.
The event’s scheduling on Valentine’s Day, he noted, adds symbolic value, as it promotes love, unity, and togetherness among couples, families, youth, and visitors.
The “Get Okere Walking” campaign is expected to become an annual attraction, reinforcing Okere’s status as a rising tourism hub in the Eastern Region.
