Shatta Wale defends bold fashion statement at World Cup raffle launch
Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has pushed back against public criticism following his appearance at the launch of the Ghana World Cup raffle initiative in Accra.
The event, which took place at the Ministry of Finance, brought together key figures from the entertainment industry and beyond to support fundraising efforts for the national team ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
While many attendees opted for formal or traditional outfits, Shatta Wale stood out with a distinctly urban-inspired look.
Dressed entirely in black, the musician rocked a casual yet bold ensemble that included a cap, sunglasses, a T-shirt, glossy trousers, and eye-catching jewellery.
His appearance quickly became a topic of debate online, with some social media users suggesting his outfit did not match the formal tone of the occasion.
Addressing the backlash during a live video session, the outspoken artist made it clear he has no intention of conforming to public expectations, emphasising that his personal style is deeply connected to his identity and music.
According to him, fashion is a form of self-expression that no one else has the authority to control.
He maintained that his preference for a “street” image over formal wear reflects both his lifestyle and artistic brand.
He also pointed to his expensive accessories as symbols of success, suggesting they command respect regardless of what he wears.
The raffle launch, organised by the Ghana World Cup Fundraising Committee on March 17, 2026, attracted several well-known names in the music scene, including Stonebwoy, Akwaboah, Nacee, and Kweku Flick.
