Shatta Wale fires back at claims of no money in Ghana’s music industry
Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has strongly pushed back against claims by a fellow musician that there is no money in Ghana’s music industry, insisting that financial success comes from hard work, smart decisions, and treating music as a business.
Speaking openly, Shatta Wale revealed that he has recorded over 11,000 songs, many of which are already online, adding that his team is still working to properly organise and manage the massive body of work.
“I have over 11,000 songs online. My team is still trying to gather everything together,” he said.
The outspoken musician further disclosed that he has sold 300 of his songs for $3 million, using the proceeds to invest in assets and businesses.
“I sold 300 of my songs for $3 million. I used some of the money to buy houses, do whatever I want to do with it, and invested part of it into my Shaxi business and other businesses,” Shatta Wale stated.
He criticised artists who complain about the lack of money in the industry, stressing that such statements often come from people in the music industry
“Some of these same artists go around saying there is no money in the industry.
That is not true,” he added.
Shatta Wale’s comments have reignited conversations about wealth creation in Ghana’s music space, with many industry players noting that his remarks underline the importance of ownership, consistency, and diversification.
As debate continues, Shatta Wale maintains that the music industry can be lucrative for artists who understand its business side and are willing to put in the work
