Tyla wins second Grammy for Best African Music Performance
South African singer Tyla has become a two-time Grammy Award winner after securing another victory at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The R&B performer took home the Best African Music Performance prize with her hit single Push 2 Start, marking her second victory in the category. She previously won the award in 2024 with her breakout song Water, becoming the inaugural recipient.
The Best African Music Performance category was one of several new categories introduced after Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr toured parts of Africa and assessed the continent’s growing global influence through contemporary sounds, widely referred to as Afrobeats.
At the 2026 ceremony, she beat competition from the Nigerians Burna Boy (Love), Davido featuring Omah Lay (With You), Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid (Gimme Dat), and Kenya and Iran’s Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).
The 68th Grammy Awards are being held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, with Trevor Noah serving as host.
