Otumfuo marks Akwasidae in South Africa with Ghanaian community
The Asantehene, Osei Tutu II, has observed the second Akwasidae of 2026 in Johannesburg, South Africa, bringing together members of the Ghanaian community in a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition.
The event, held on March 15, drew Ghanaians living in South Africa, particularly those from Asanteman, who gathered to mark the sacred occasion in a show of unity and cultural pride.
Akwasidae, a significant event on the Asante traditional calendar, is observed to honour ancestors and reaffirm the values and heritage of the Asante people.
The ceremony in Johannesburg highlighted the enduring relevance of Ghanaian traditions beyond the country’s borders, reinforcing cultural identity among the diaspora.
Participants described the gathering as a powerful reminder of the unifying role of tradition, noting that such events help preserve heritage and strengthen bonds among Ghanaians living abroad.
The presence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II underscored the importance of the occasion, as he continues to promote Asante culture and values both within Ghana and across the global community.
