Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has challenged the government’s claims that fertilizer has been distributed to farmers, arguing that delays in the supply of critical farm inputs are driving up food prices and worsening the cost of living.

Contributing to the debate on the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament, the former Information Minister said government officials had presented conflicting accounts on the availability of fertilizer, insisting that many farmers were yet to receive the inputs needed for this year’s farming season.

He contended that the delays are already affecting consumers, with prices of staple food items continuing to rise in markets across the country.

“Ask those who go to the market the price of just one tomato. You will see the value of what you are doing,” he told the House.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stressed that the timely distribution of fertilizer and other agricultural inputs is essential to boosting crop production, improving food security and helping stabilise prices.

The Ofoase-Ayirebi MP also criticised the government over delays in granting financial clearance for the recruitment of trained teachers and health professionals.

According to him, although the Ministers for Education and Health have acknowledged the need for additional personnel, thousands of qualified professionals remain unemployed because approval has not been granted for their recruitment.

He alleged that the delays are intended to improve the government’s fiscal numbers rather than address staffing gaps in essential public services.

The Minority is urging the government to expedite the distribution of agricultural inputs and approve the recruitment of teachers and health workers to strengthen service delivery and support economic growth.
