The Prempeh Assembly District Court has convicted six individuals for illegally dumping waste at the Otumfuo Roundabout in Kejetia.

The group was apprehended during a pre-dawn ambush conducted by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) sanitation task force on Monday, May 11, 2026.

The operation was launched in response to persistent complaints regarding indiscriminate littering at the landmark.

The accused persons pleaded guilty to violating sanitation by-laws.

Presiding magistrate Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkoh ordered each individual to pay a fine of GH¢1,200 (100 penalty units) or serve a 10-day prison sentence.

The convicted individuals are Atta Gyamfi, 55; Manuna Ishawu, 24; Veronica Maako, 31; Mariama Iddrisu, 64; Kwadwo Amuzu, 37; and Ebenezer Atakorah, 25. Five of the convicts paid their fines immediately, while Atakorah was taken into custody to begin his sentence after failing to pay.

KMA Public Relations Officer Henrietta Aboagye stated that the task force positioned itself at 5:30 a.m. to catch offenders who typically dump refuse under the cover of dawn.

She emphasiSed that the assembly is strictly enforcing by-laws to deter future littering and restore Kumasi's status as the "Garden City." The KMA warned that similar enforcement operations will continue throughout the metropolis.
