A/R: Driver, mate dead after fuel tanker crashes and explodes at Adubinsu
Two people have lost their lives following a fuel tanker explosion at Adubinsu in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region.
The accident happened in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Reports indicate that the tanker was travelling from Edwenase towards Adubinsu when it reportedly developed brake failure, causing the driver to lose control.
The vehicle overturned and burst into flames, with the fire spreading to nearby properties.
An eyewitness, Daniel Owusu, said the driver, identified as Abass Toure, died at the scene. His mate, who sustained critical burns, was taken to the Tafo Government Hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
The fire also destroyed several properties, including roadside container shops and a house in the area.
Firefighters and police personnel were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and contain the blaze.
Mamponteng Fire Commander, DOII Akua Brago, confirmed that the Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call at 12:05 a.m. and arrived at the location 20 minutes later.
She said the fire was successfully brought under control, preventing further destruction.
According to the Fire Service, seven container shops were completely destroyed, while a Ford vehicle parked near a house was also burnt.
The incident has plunged the Adubinsu community into mourning as residents grieve the loss of the two victims.
