The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has begun distributing poultry under its “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative, aimed at supporting local farmers and reducing dependence on imported poultry.

The programme forms part of the wider “Feed Ghana Programme,” a strategic effort to enhance national food security and strengthen the poultry sector.

In the first phase, the Municipality distributed 3,000 birds to 150 selected beneficiaries, with each receiving 20 poultry birds. Eric Assibey, the Municipal Chief Executive, noted that the initiative has attracted significant interest since its pilot phase, with more than 500 people registering to participate.

Mr. Assibey emphasised that the Assembly has put measures in place to ensure proper oversight of the programme, including specialised training for beneficiaries before receiving their poultry.

Beneficiaries expressed excitement about the distribution, admitting initial scepticism about the initiative’s implementation. They commended the government for the programme’s smooth execution and the opportunity it presents to improve livelihoods and contribute to local food production.
