The Jasikan Circuit Court has remanded four individuals into police custody for two weeks over the possession of compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in two separate cases.

All four accused persons pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and narcotics trafficking when they appeared before the court, presided over by Lambert Kerigah. They are expected to reappear on March 5, 2026.

In the first case, police arrested Justice Nelson Amlodo, a 50-year-old driver based in Kpando, and Olayele Yussuf, a 25-year-old Nigerian national, after intercepting a Benz Cargo truck at Bodada in the Oti Region.

A search uncovered 1,482 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp hidden in a secret compartment of the vehicle.

According to the prosecutor, Seth-Vincent Kpodo, officers mounted surveillance along the Hohoe–Likpe–Jasikan–Nkwanta route following intelligence.

Although an initial inspection revealed nothing, a further search exposed the concealed compartment containing the substances, which later tested positive at the local narcotics unit.

In a separate case, Ewulator Felix, 37, and Emmanuel Yaodea, 40, were arrested during a police operation code-named “Motherland” at Baglo.

The two were found in a taxi with 48 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp concealed in fertiliser bags.

Both sets of suspects have been remanded as investigations continue.
