Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the Dorfor Adidome–Asikuma and the Juapong–Asikuma sections of the Eastern Corridor Road.

When completed, the road is expected to boost economic activities in the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra Regions due to its interconnected nature across these regions. About 70% of the stretch passes through the North Tongu constituency which the MP noted gives him the excitement to supervise progress of work.

The roads are set to serve as the approach routes for the construction of the Volivo Bridge across the Volta Lake.

Its timely completion will enable contractors to start work and open up the area for agriculture, tourism, and other economic activities.

The project is valued at an estimated cost of $90 million, following variations arising from the elevation of the road to prevent it from being submerged during heavy rains.

The African Development Bank is facilitating the project through a loan facility, while execution is being undertaken by a Chinese contractor.
