The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly has launched a major demolition exercise targeting illegal structures and ghettos in the Shiabu, Gbegbeyise, and Glefe communities.

The operation aims to clamp down on criminal activities involving youth in the area and improve local security.

Led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) George Kpakpo Allotey, the assembly’s taskforce conducted the exercise in collaboration with the Dansoman Police.

According to the MCE, the assembly decided to act following ignored warnings to occupants and numerous complaints from residents and parents regarding illegal activities.

During the operation, one individual was arrested and is currently assisting police with investigations. Authorities also retrieved exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, from the sites.

Mr Allotey emphasized that the exercise is not a one-day event, stating, “Once we have started, we will make sure we get rid of all these illegal activities.” The demolition is expected to continue for over a week across various coastal communities within the municipality as part of intensified efforts to restore order.
