Accra floods: 4-storey building collapses in Tabora, 12 occupants escape unharmed
All twelve occupants of a four-storey building at Tabora No. 6 managed to evacuate safely moments before the structure completely collapsed. The incident occurred following intense rainfall that has caused widespread disruption across the Greater Accra Region.
According to footage sighted by Class News, the multi-storey building was reduced to a pile of rubble. Flashing sirens from emergency response vehicles at the scene indicated the swift presence of rescue teams and police personnel securing the area.
An eyewitness reported that the building’s inhabitants heard an initial structural crack, prompting an immediate evacuation of the premises. Thanks to the timely warning, no injuries or casualties have been recorded.
The structural failure comes at a time when the capital is grappling with severe environmental stress. Heavy and persistent downpours on Sunday and Monday have triggered widespread flooding, submerging key transport routes, disrupting peak-hour commutes, and inundating residential areas across Accra.
The situation remains critical as the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued fresh warnings, alerting the public to expect further rainfall starting from Tuesday. Emergency services continue to monitor vulnerable structures across the metropolis as the wet weather persists.
