Mahama announces drafting of State Assets Protection Bill

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Cabinet has directed the Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine, to draft legislation for the protection of state assets, to be known as the State Assets Protection Bill.

He made the announcement at the Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026, held under the theme “Reimagining Partnerships for Democratic Consolidation and Inclusive Development.”

According to the president, the bill is intended to prevent any government from the arbitrary disposal of state assets, including lands, buildings, factories and industries.

He explained that the proposed legislation will set out clear guidelines governing the disposal of state assets, ensuring that no administration can capriciously sell or transfer public property.
