Afenyo-Markin calls for withdrawal of AI-based tests in security recruitment

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to the government to discontinue the use of AI-driven aptitude assessments in the ongoing enlistment exercise for Ghana’s security agencies, citing widespread concerns from applicants.

The Effutu MP indicated that he and other Members of Parliament have been inundated with complaints from constituents who were unable to advance in the recruitment process after encountering problems with the online examination platform.

Addressing the House on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin called for a reassessment of the digital testing system, stressing the need to make the process inclusive, especially for candidates who lack strong technological proficiency.

He noted that many prospective recruits from rural areas struggle to navigate the online interface, which has become a significant barrier to their participation.

The Minority Leader emphasised that the matter should not be reduced to partisan debate but treated as a structural issue requiring prompt intervention from the appropriate authorities.

He further revealed that several applicants have had to pay for access to internet cafés to complete the assessments, only to face technical glitches that halted their progress.

Afenyo-Markin therefore urged the government to reconsider the current approach to ensure that entry into the security services is transparent, equitable, and accessible to all deserving candidates.
