Ahiafor refers Afenyo-Markin to Privileges Committee over recruitment ‘scam’ claims after complaint by Mohammed-Mubarak
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has referred the Minority Leader to the Privileges Committee following a formal complaint filed by the Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak who has cited Alexander Afenyo-Markin for contempt.
According to the minister, Minorty Leader Afenyo-Markin allegedly maligned the ongoing security recruitment exercise by describing it as a scam and claiming it is imposing heavy financial burden on applicants through the use of a third party IT firm.
In a response to the call by the interior minister, the Minority Leader called for a public hearing to be conducted as part of the investigation, stating he is ready to present himself before the committee.
Meanwhile, the Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga asserted that attempts by the opposition to create non-existing scandals to tarnish the image of the government will not work, warning that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliement (MPs) will push for a severe punishment against Afenyo-Markin should he fail to substantiate his allegations.
The First Deputy Speaker, after referring the issue to the Privileges Committee, explained that the Minority Leader remains innocent until the investigation finds otherwise.
