The Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professional Workers Union, Korle Bu chapter, and the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have threatened to strike from February 4, 2026 over the lack of a directorate to management their affairs.

The unions have accused the Hospital’s Management of breach of Section 69 of the Labour Act, Act 561 and are demanding urgent redress of the issue.

Chairman of the federation, Edem Ayem said “for many years now, we have been asking for the opportunity to have our own directorate that takes care of us and helps to promote anything that is Allied Health for Good Governance, Promotion, Accountability and Education are what we have been asking for”.

According to the Chairman, “since time immemorial we have been under the Medical Affairs Directorate.”

He also said “the nurses have their own directorate with their director, same with other professions so what we are asking for is to give us a seat at the table of decision making.”

He concluded that, ” failure of the Management to immediately establish an Allied Health Services Directorate at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, approve organogram establishing the allied health directorate as earlier agreed at the meeting with the board chairman on 2nd December, 2025 and also appoint a substantive director of allied health services to ensure proper leadership, coordination and accountability will result in a strike action effective 4th February, 2026.”
