Three people are critically injured, while a chief’s palace and a sound system have been vandalised, after more than 50 land guards reportedly stormed Gomoa Main in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region amid chieftaincy disputes.

Ebusuapanyin Kofi Botwey of Gomoa Main told journalists at a press conference that the community was celebrating a chieftaincy ruling when over 50 land guards, armed with guns, cutlasses, sticks, and other weapons, invaded the celebration ground.

He said the attackers vandalised the chief’s palace and surrounding property and attacked three people in the process.

Botwey described the incident as the first of its kind in the area and appealed to the Central Regional Police Command, the Regional Minister, and the Inspector General of Police to deploy officers to the area for patrols, saying residents now live in fear.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the group came from Kosoa and said celebrations turned chaotic when the armed land guards allegedly opened fire, forcing people to flee.

They said three people were injured and property, including the chief’s palace, was damaged.

The witnesses also called for intervention from the police, the Inspector General of Police, the Gomoa Akyeampim Paramount Chief, and the Regional Minister, saying the community is gripped by fear.

The injured are receiving treatment at the Esuohyia Hospital.

The incident has been reported to the Gomoa Buduburam Police Station for investigation. No arrests have yet been made.
