The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Eduamoah, has called on media practitioners, religious leaders and traditional authorities across the region to intensify public education and advocacy on sanitation to help create cleaner and healthier communities.

According to the minister, poor sanitation remains a major challenge in many communities within the Central Region and requires a collective effort from all stakeholders, including the media, churches, mosques and traditional institutions.

He noted that significant government resources are spent annually on sanitation-related activities such as waste management and clean-up exercises. He said that if communities adopt proper sanitation practices, those resources could be redirected to other critical development areas, including education, healthcare, roads and job creation initiatives.

Eduamoah stressed that media houses, pastors, imams and chiefs wield considerable influence within society and can play an important role in promoting positive attitudes towards environmental cleanliness.

He also reiterated his vision of making the Central Region the cleanest region in Ghana and urged residents to take personal responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.

The minister made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing 24-hour economy market projects at Twifo Praso in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District.

The District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Isaac Yawson, pledged his support for the minister’s sanitation agenda and broader development vision for the district and the region.

He expressed gratitude to the government and President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment and assured residents of his commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the 24-hour economy market projects.

Yawson stated that the projects are expected to stimulate local economic activity, create employment opportunities for young people and improve trading conditions for businesses in the district.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to promote environmental cleanliness and sustainable development in the district.
