Council of State engagement delayed acceptance of Sophia Akuffo’s Sept 2025 resignation – Felix Kwakye Ofosu
Justice Sophia Akuffo submitted her resignation from the Council of State to President John Dramani Mahama in September 2025, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has disclosed.
According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, the President delayed accepting the resignation at the request of the Council of State, which sought time to engage the former Chief Justice and determine whether there were any concerns or grievances that could be addressed.
He explained that after its engagements with Madam Akuffo, the Council informed the President that her decision remained unchanged and that her resignation could be accepted.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu made the disclosure at a press conference on Monday, June 15, where he also stated that the necessary constitutional and administrative processes are underway to fill the vacancy created by her departure.
The clarification comes a day after reports of the former Chief Justice's resignation emerged in the media.
