E/R: 3 children's deaths spark protest, school closures in Kwahu Kotoso
Fear and tension have gripped Kwahu Kotoso in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region following the deaths of three children under unexplained circumstances within the past month.
The incident triggered a protest by residents, who took to the streets demanding justice after the children, who reportedly went missing at different times, were later found dead.
The deaths have heightened anxiety in the community, with some residents expressing concerns about possible ritual killings. However, police investigations are ongoing, and no official cause or motive has been established.
Protesters marched to the chief's palace and forced the closure of both public and private schools, accusing traditional leaders of not doing enough to address the situation. Some demonstrators were armed with sticks and cutlasses, prompting police to intervene to maintain order and prevent violence.
Residents have called on security agencies to speed up investigations and bring those responsible to justice.
The Akwamuhene of Kwahu Kotoso, Nana Ampomah Kwakye, appealed for calm and urged residents to allow the police to complete their investigations. He said the traditional council was working closely with the security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the deaths.
He also announced that a peaceful demonstration would be held on Saturday to demand justice for the deceased children and call for improved security in the community.
