Foreign Affairs Minister invites family of dead Latvia student
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, has invited the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia to a meeting at the Foreign Ministry to offer condolences and provide updates on the Ministry’s response to the tragedy.
During the meeting, Minister Okudzeto-Ablakwa conveyed his deepest sympathies and outlined several key interventions.
The Ministry promptly dispatched a fact-finding mission from the Ghanaian embassy in Germany, which also covers Latvia, to investigate the circumstances surrounding Nana Agyei’s death.
This mission has submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry.
Latvian authorities have confirmed that their investigation into the case is still ongoing and has not yet been concluded.
The Minister has formally notified the Latvian government of his intention to travel to Latvia to engage directly with his counterpart and the investigators.
The delegation will include representatives from Nana Agyei Ahyia’s family.
Additionally, the Government of Ghana plans to engage independent experts to review all investigative reports, particularly the final report expected from Latvian authorities, to determine the next steps in the pursuit of justice.
