Fuel tanker drivers have begun an indefinite strike nationwide after government failed to address their concerns over dangerous road conditions.

The drivers had earlier given government a two-week ultimatum to take urgent action following a series of fatal crashes involving tankers.

The latest incident at the Brimso Bridge in the Eastern Region which claimed the lives of a tanker driver and his mate heightened their concerns.

The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union says its members will remain off the road until concrete measures are taken to improve safety.

As the strike has just begun, the immediate impact on fuel supplies may not be felt but a prolonged action could disrupt the distribution of petroleum products across the country.
