The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Doha has issued a security advisory urging all Ghanaians living in Qatar to take shelter until further notice, warning of heightened tensions following recent military actions in the Middle East.

The advisory, dated 28 February 2026, follows a wave of retaliatory missile strikes across the Gulf region after coordinated United States and Israeli military strikes on Iran.

“Due to missile attack and its impact in Doha, please take shelter until further notice,” the embassy statement reads, urging residents to remain indoors, stay away from military sites, and maintain supplies of essentials such as food and medication.

The embassy also provided emergency contact details for anyone needing assistance, and cautioned Ghanaian citizens to obtain information from official sources only.

The advisory comes amid one of the sharpest escalations in the region in years, after the United States and Israel launched a major offensive against multiple targets inside Iran, a campaign that Western officials have said is aimed at degrading Tehran’s missile and nuclear capabilities.

The strikes reportedly included bombardment of key Iranian cities and strategic facilities. 

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared that all U.S. and Israeli military assets in the Middle East are legitimate targets, unleashing waves of ballistic missiles and drones across the region.

Several Gulf states, including Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have reported missile alerts, intercepted incoming threats, and temporarily closed airspace as a precautionary measure. 

Explosions were reported over the skies of Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, and Gulf defence systems engaged dozens of incoming projectiles.

Officials in the UAE said their air defences had intercepted hundreds of missiles and drones launched from Iranian territory. 

The situation has sparked emergency responses: The UAE issued a rare alert for residents to seek shelter amid the missile threats, and major airports across the Gulf have suspended flights as regional capitals brace for further fallout. 

Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions are underway while the United Nations and global leaders call for restraint.

However, for many residents in the Gulf — including expatriate communities such as Ghanaians — the immediate priority remains personal safety as uncertainty continues to grip the region.
