As prophetic declarations gain prominence in Ghana, transcending religious circles into politics, Rev Dr Ebenezer Markwei, Head Pastor of Living Streams International Church, has urged Christians to exercise discernment in evaluating prophetic ministries.

Rev Markwei outlined five critical benchmarks, dubbed the Five Ms, that believers should consider to avoid falling victim to misleading prophecies.

1. Money – Ministries that tie prophecy to financial demands raise questions about integrity and intent.

2. Motive – Prophetic messages should edify and guide, not manipulate or exploit people for personal gain.

3. Message – Genuine prophecy aligns with scripture and points believers toward Christ, not the prophet.

4. Morals – Character matters as much as charisma; inconsistencies between personal conduct and public gifting undermine credibility.

5. Methods – Practices must be biblically grounded; harmful or extra-biblical approaches are warning signs.

“The Bible says dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking smell,” Rev. Markwei noted, emphasizing that a prophet’s character directly impacts the authenticity of their ministry.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Point of View, Rev Markwei encouraged Christians to develop a personal relationship with Christ, rather than making their faith dependent on any single spiritual leader, a warning particularly relevant as prophecy becomes more visible even in national discourse.
