Ghana Jollof Brouhaha: Court grants Salomey Awity Bafoh GH¢100,000 bail
Salomey Awity Bafoh, a senior nurse who was arrested and remanded for 2 weeks in police custody, has been granted a bail of GH¢100,000.
The nurse and a mother of three children was apprehended over accusations of her abetting an alleged publication of false news by Ghana Jollof, a social media critic.
The court directed for her to be released on two sureties with both being civil servants earning not less than GH¢3,000 monthly.
“We are extremely happy. The prosecution didn’t oppose the bail. Looking at what she has gone through, she is extremely pained but what can she do? Once we are grateful to the court, we are extremely grateful to the media as well,” her lawyer, Enoch Afoakwa, told the media.
Salomey Awity was arrested on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at her residence in Hansua near Techiman in the Bono East Region with reports indicating she was picked up at midnight by some security personnel without her family knowing her whereabouts.
Her seeming abduction, as it was initially thought of by her family, lawyers and other members of the public, sparked public backlash.
