Gov't explores transport partnerships in China to modernise Metro Mass Transit

A Ghanaian delegation has continued engagements in China aimed at modernising the country’s public transport sector and improving urban mobility through strategic international partnerships.

The delegation, which is exploring the introduction of an Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system in Ghana, visited Xiangyang Tenglong Automobile Co., Ltd. as part of ongoing discussions focused on transport development and fleet expansion.

The visit led by the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey formed part of broader government efforts to improve intra-city transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and provide safer, faster, and more efficient public transport services for commuters across the country.

During the engagement, members of the delegation assessed a range of new-energy and diesel-powered buses while also studying advanced vehicle inspection systems and integrated transport management technologies designed to enhance efficiency, safety, and accessibility in modern transport systems.

The Deputy Minister in a remark, said the discussions were aimed at supporting the growth and transformation of Metro Mass Transit Limited through strategic collaboration and technology transfer.

According to the delegation, the proposed partnerships are expected to help reduce commuter challenges, improve service delivery, and strengthen Ghana’s public transportation network.

The engagement also reflects government’s broader commitment under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to building a modern, reliable, and sustainable transport sector capable of supporting national development and improving the daily lives of citizens.

 

She noted that the ongoing discussions in China form part of efforts to reposition Ghana’s transport system through innovation, infrastructure development, and international cooperation.
