Government warns employees: Update Ghana Card details or risk salary suspension
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has issued a stern warning to employees of select government entities to update their Ghana Card details on the Government of Ghana Payroll System, or risk having their salaries suspended from March 15, 2026.
In a statement signed by Kwasi Agyei, Controller and Accountant-General, the department noted that discrepancies in National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers are preventing some employees from accessing the newly rolled out e-Payslip platform, designed to allow staff to view their monthly payslips digitally.
“These discrepancies arise when NIA numbers captured on the payroll system do not match the employee’s records with the National Identification Authority,” the statement explained.
To address the issue, Human Resource Departments of affected entities have been asked to:
1. Correct the NIA numbers of all affected staff on the payroll system.
2. Submit applications for correction or insertion of NIA numbers, including posting of transfer letters and a clear print copy of the Ghana Card, to CAGD.
The department has sent the full list of employees flagged with “no NIA” details to the corporate emails of the affected entities for immediate action.
Kwesi Agyei emphasised that the verification of NIA records is critical for a forthcoming nationwide employee re-verification exercise, and urged full cooperation to ensure uninterrupted salary payments.
“Employees without verified NIA details will have their salaries suspended effective 15th March 2026,” the statement warned.
