Hajia Charity donates food items to Muslims in Bolgatanga Central for Ramadan
The former Upper East Regional Women Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hajia Charity Rahinatu Haruna Iddris, has donated assorted food items to the Muslim community in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency to support them during the holy month of Ramadan.
The donation, which included 200 bags of rice, 100 bags of sugar, and 100 boxes of cooking oil, forms part of Hajia Haruna’s annual gesture to support Muslim communities as they observe the sacred period of fasting and prayer.
The items were distributed to several groups and leaders within the Muslim community, including the Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Yussif Imam Umar, the Deputy Chief Imam, the youth wing of the NDC, and other Muslim faithful across the constituency.
Speaking during the presentation, Hajia Haruna explained that the gesture is part of her routine support during Ramadan and also an opportunity to seek Allah’s blessings, peace, and protection for the country and its people.
“This is something I do every year during Ramadan to support our Muslim brothers and sisters as they observe this sacred period.
It is also a moment to pray for peace, unity, and protection for Ghana and all our communities,” she said.
She further used the occasion to encourage women to continue playing active roles in advocating for the development of their families and communities, particularly by prioritising education for their children.
“Women must continue to champion the cause of education.
We must ensure that our children remain in school because education is the key to building the Ghana we all dream of,” she added.
The donation initiative was coordinated by Madam Gifty Nyaaba, who led the distribution of the items on behalf of Hajia Charity Rahinatu Haruna Iddris.
As part of the distribution, the Chief Imam received 10 bags of rice (each containing five 25kg bags), five bags of sugar, and 25 litres of cooking oil.
The Regional Chief Imam and the Deputy Imam also received five bags of rice each (each containing five 25kg bags), two bags of sugar, and three boxes of Frytol oil, with each box containing 12 bottles of 1.5 litres of cooking oil.
The youth wing of the NDC also benefited from 43 bags of rice (each containing five 25kg bags) and five boxes of cooking oil, each box containing 12 bottles.
Receiving the items, Sheikh Yussif Imam Umar expressed appreciation for the gesture and offered prayers for Hajia Charity Rahinatu Haruna Iddris, asking Allah to grant her long life, protection, and guidance for her continued support to the Muslim community.
Muslims observe Ramadan, the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic lunar calendar, worldwide through fasting, prayer, charity, and spiritual reflection.
The period, which lasts between 29 and 30 days, commemorates the first revelation of the Quran and ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
