The Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources has pledged its support for efforts by the National Homeownership Fund (NHF) to strengthen partnerships and financing mechanisms aimed at making decent housing more accessible to Ghanaians.

The Ministry says addressing Ghana’s housing deficit will require closer collaboration among government, financial institutions, private developers and housing finance institutions.

Speaking at the 4th Annual General Meeting of the National Homeownership Fund, the Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui commended the Fund for expanding its engagement with strategic partners to develop new approaches to housing finance.

According to her the partnership could provide a foundation for stronger financing arrangements, increased private-sector investment and improved access to affordable housing.

she also welcomed the National Homeownership Fund’s upcoming National Conference on Housing Finance, scheduled for October 7 and 8, 2026.

The conference is expected to bring together policymakers, financial institutions, developers, investors, academics and other stakeholders to discuss practical ways of addressing Ghana’s housing challenges.

The Ministry has assured the Fund of its full support for the conference, saying it should generate concrete policy recommendations and partnerships capable of transforming the housing sector.

Meanwhile, the Ministry highlighted its collaboration with the National Homeownership Fund under the Greenville District Housing Programme, which seeks to expand affordable housing beyond Ghana’s major urban centres.

The pilot programme is being implemented in eight selected districts, with each district targeted for the development of housing units designed to meet modern standards of efficiency and sustainability.

The Ministry says the initiative is based on the principle that access to decent housing should not be limited to residents of major cities.

It argues that as economic activity expands across the country, people living and working in districts should also have access to affordable and sustainable housing.

The Ministry described the District Housing Programme as part of a broader effort to rethink how housing is planned, financed and delivered in Ghana.

It further commended the National Homeownership Fund for what it described as meaningful progress in fulfilling its mandate and urged the institution to continue exploring innovative and commercially sustainable approaches to housing finance.

The Ministry pledged to work with the Fund to deepen partnerships, address institutional challenges and support initiatives that can increase the supply of decent and affordable homes across the country.
