Tanker drivers in Kumasi begin a 3-day sit-down strike over meter reading, and parking concerns
Tanker drivers in Kumasi have begun a 3-day sit-down strike, raising concerns over alleged errors in meter readings and inadequate parking facilities.
The drivers say inaccuracies in the metering of petroleum products are affecting their operations which results in financial losses. The drivers also say the lack of adequate parking space is forcing them to park their trucks along the roadside while waiting to load or offload petroleum products.
They argue that the situation exposes them to risks and creates inconvenience for other road users, particularly on busy routes.
The drivers are therefore demanding urgent action from authorities to provide a suitable and secure parking area for tanker operators, also calling for the metering system to be properly checked to ensure that the quantities recorded correspond with the actual volumes loaded.
The 3-day sit-down strike has brought their operations to a halt, with the drivers hoping their action will compel authorities and other stakeholders to address their concerns. The drivers say they are ready to return to work once concrete steps are taken to resolve the issues.
