Yendi firefighters travel 61km to contain fire at Gushegu Nursing College
Firefighters from the Yendi Fire Station under the Northern Regional Command travelled approximately 61 kilometres to contain a fire outbreak at the Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the early hours of Monday, August 17, 2026.
The firefighters were dispatched at 7:28 AM and arrived at the school at about 8:12 AM.
Upon arrival, the crew found that the fire had engulfed the school’s ICT laboratory and an adjoining classroom within the same vicinity.
Through coordinated firefighting efforts, the tactical team contained the fire within the affected laboratory in 40 minutes, bringing it under control at 8:52 AM.
The fire was finally extinguished at 9:13 AM, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the institution and saving the school’s infrastructure from complete destruction.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the outbreak and ascertain its root cause.
