The Director of Field Operations for the United Party, Hopeson Adorye, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for what he describes as his significant contribution to improving security in the country.

According to Mr Adorye, the IGP’s leadership has contributed to a reduction in crime in various parts of the country, particularly in areas such as Ashaiman.

He believes the development has helped improve public confidence in the Ghana Police Service and made many Ghanaians feel safer.

Reflecting on his personal encounter with the IGP, Mr. Adorye said he first interacted with him while organising a demonstration during the period when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in opposition.

“I personally had an encounter with the current IGP when I was organising a demonstration during the period the NPP was in opposition. As the leader of the demonstration, he approached me, engaged me in a discussion, exchanged contacts with me and asked me to save his number.”

Mr Adorye said the encounter subsequently developed into a cordial relationship, with the IGP offering him guidance on several occasions concerning demonstrations and related matters.

“Since then, we have maintained a cordial relationship. On several occasions, he has offered me valuable advice and guidance regarding demonstrations and other related issues.”

He further praised the IGP’s leadership, saying the country’s security situation has improved under his tenure.

“I believe Ghanaians are safer today under the security leadership of Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and his efforts deserve serious commendation.”

Mr Adorye, however, stressed the need for future police leadership to sustain the progress made under the current IGP.

He said the next Inspector-General of Police would have a significant responsibility to preserve the credibility and achievements associated with Mr. Yohuno’s tenure.

“The next IGP will have a significant responsibility to sustain the credibility, progress and legacy that Christian Tetteh Yohuno is building within the Ghana Police Service.”

Mr Adorye therefore called on future police administrations to build on the existing gains and continue to prioritise public safety, professionalism and effective policing.
