Sam George orders ministry staff to register for One Million Coders programme
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has ordered all staff of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies to enrol in the government’s One Million Coders Programme by Friday, September 11.
The directive covers employees across all ranks, including the Minister himself, Deputy Minister, Chief Director, directors and other staff of the Ministry and its agencies.
Speaking at the National Girls in ICT Day celebration on Monday, September 7, Sam George said every staff member is expected to submit proof of registration to the Chief Director before the deadline.
He further directed that employees who enrol should complete at least one course under the programme and earn a certificate by the end of 2026.
The Minister said the initiative is intended to strengthen the digital capabilities of public sector workers and equip them with skills needed to participate effectively in Ghana’s expanding digital economy.
“I’ve just told the Chief Director that I want a memo to go out to all agencies under the ministry and the ministry itself. By the close of the week, all staff of every agency under this ministry and in the ministry, from the Minister and the Deputy Minister and Chief Director to Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and then all the various big portfolios you have in your agencies. You have until the end of this week to show evidence,” he said.
Mr George said the requirement forms part of broader efforts to build a digitally skilled workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.
