Interior Minister eases motorbike restrictions for women in Bawku
The Minister for the Interior has relaxed security restrictions on the use of motorbikes in the Bawku Municipality and surrounding communities by allowing women to ride during specified daytime hours.
The directive, issued through an Executive Instrument on the recommendation of the National Security Council, takes immediate effect and permits women to operate motorbikes between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Ministry of the Interior said the adjustment forms part of ongoing security measures in the area.
Despite the change, the ministry clarified that the prohibition on men riding motorbikes remains in place and will continue until further notice.
Authorities appealed to residents to observe the directive and cooperate with security agencies to support efforts aimed at preserving peace and maintaining law and order in the municipality.
The ministry indicated that the revised measure follows security assessments by the National Security Council as efforts continue to address the situation in the area.
