Kojo Oppong Nkrumah raises alarm over Abronye DC’s health and detention conditions
Legal counsel Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, for Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, has expressed concern over the health condition and detention circumstances of his client, claiming his condition has deteriorated while in custody.
Speaking Class News Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated that Abronye DC has remained in detention since May 13 and described his current health situation as worrying.
According to him, legal representatives have repeatedly been denied access to the detained politician while he remains in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah alleged that attempts by lawyers to meet Abronye DC have been unsuccessful, claiming officials at both the BNI and the police have continued redirecting them without granting access.
He disclosed that the only person who had briefly seen Abronye DC was his wife during a visit on Saturday.
According to him, feedback from the visit suggested that Abronye DC’s health had worsened considerably. He further claimed that the outspoken politician had recently travelled abroad for medical treatment prior to his arrest.
Abronye DC was rearrested on Wednesday, May 13, weeks after being granted bail in an earlier matter involving allegations of misinformation and offensive public remarks.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also criticised what he described as efforts to isolate his client and suppress opposing political voices, while calling for transparency and due process in the handling of the case.
The former Information Minister further accused authorities of delaying legal procedures, alleging that it took seven days for the defence team to obtain a copy of a court order denying bail.
According to him, such delays undermine the legal process and raise concerns about fairness in the administration of justice.
