Korle- Bu Allied health workers demand directorate
Members of the Allied health professionals at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have staged a peaceful protest at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, demanding the urgent operationalisation of an Allied Health Directorate and appointment of a substantive director, citing longstanding governance and leadership concerns affecting allied health administration and healthcare delivery.
The protest which was done on Friday May 15 saw members march through the principal streets of the KBTH hospital, wearing red armbands to register their displeasure over what they described as longstanding governance and leadership challenges affecting allied health administration.
Addressing the media after the protest, Acting Chairman of the Korle Bu chapter, Edward Ayem, said though the group has engaged hospital management, the Ministry of Health, the National Labour Commission and other stakeholders for years, the process toward establishing the directorate is taking too long.
“Our ultimate demand remains very clear: the full operationalisation of the Allied Health Directorate at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the appointment of a substantive Allied Health Director to provide professional leadership, coordination, accountability, and effective governance for Allied Health services,” he said.
