President John Dramani Mahama has pledged full government support for Ghana’s hosting of the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress, describing the global gathering as an opportunity to boost the nation’s spiritual, economic, and international profile.

He gave the assurance when the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Rev. Dominic Yeo, paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.

Rev. Yeo was accompanied by the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, as well as his counterparts from Benin and Zambia—Rev. Ben Sodji and Rev. Lipenga Banda.

The Chairman of the Local Planning Committee, Rev. Andrews Awintia, and First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama were also present.

President Mahama, himself a member of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, highlighted the immense spiritual value and significant economic benefits the congress will bring to the country.

He stressed that such an event underscores the need for strong collaboration between the church and the state.

He also emphasised the importance of moral and biblical principles in leadership, noting their relevance in guiding national progress.

Rev. Yeo commended President Mahama for his “visionary, decisive and bold leadership,” which he said has contributed to Ghana’s economic stability.

He also praised the President for recently launching a Code of Conduct for government officials, describing it as a step towards improved governance.

He appealed to the government to continue its partnership with the church to ensure a world-class congress.

The 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress—launched in Accra on November 14, 2025—is scheduled to take place from October 12 to 14, 2026.

It will focus on strategies to advance the MM33 Agenda, which seeks to establish one million Assemblies of God churches worldwide by 2033, coinciding with the 2000th anniversary of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the Day of Pentecost.

The Accra congress will be the first-ever to be hosted in Africa, with more than 100,000 delegates and countless international visitors expected to converge on Ghana for the historic event.
