Mahama begins 5-day visit to South Korea to deepen trade and technology ties

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in the South Korea for a five-day working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for trade, investment, and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The president landed at the Air Force Base in Seoul at exactly 8 PM local time, where he was warmly received by Park Kyongsig, Korean Ambassador to Ghana; Chung Kwangyong, Director-General of the Africa and Middle East Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea; and Kojo Choi, Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea, along with officials from the Ghana Embassy in Seoul.

Ghana and South Korea have maintained decades of cordial diplomatic relations built on cooperation in trade, education, technology, infrastructure development, and cultural exchange. The visit is expected to further deepen these ties while expanding partnerships in key sectors such as industry, shipping, innovation, and human capital development.

During the visit, President Mahama will hold bilateral talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and also meet the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, Woo Won-shik.

As part of his itinerary, the President will attend a ship-naming ceremony at the shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and deliver a speech during a conferment ceremony at Yonsei University. He is also scheduled to grant an interview to Yonhap News Agency.

Other engagements include an evening meeting with Ghanaians studying and working in South Korea, as well as dinner meetings with chief executives and business leaders to discuss investment opportunities in Ghana.

President Mahama is accompanied by a delegation that includes Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President; Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Advisor and Special Aide to the President; Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs; and Stan Xoese Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations.
