President John Mahama lays a wreath in honour of his former boss, the late President Prof John Evans Atta-Mills

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday laid a wreath at Asomdwee Park in Accra in honour of late President John Evans Atta Mills during a ceremony marking the 14th anniversary of his passing.

The wreath-laying formed part of a memorial service attended by senior government officials, political leaders, traditional authorities and other dignitaries who gathered to pay tribute to the late former President.

President Mahama laid the wreath on behalf of the Republic of Ghana before observing a moment of silence in memory of his predecessor, who died in office on July 24, 2012.

The annual ceremony commemorates the life and service of the late President Mills, whose leadership is widely associated with peace, unity and democratic governance.

This year's observance formed part of activities marking the 14th anniversary of his death, with the memorial programme concluding with the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament.
