The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed all universities in the country to immediately stop using entrance examinations as a precondition for admitting prospective students.

The directive forms part of the Commission's efforts to ensure that admission processes across tertiary institutions comply with national regulations and promote fair and equitable access to higher education.

According to GTEC, universities are expected to admit applicants based on approved entry requirements and qualifications, rather than imposing additional entrance examinations unless expressly permitted under existing regulatory frameworks.

The Commission warned that institutions that fail to comply with the directive could face regulatory sanctions.

GTEC said the move is aimed at standardising admission procedures across the country's tertiary education sector while safeguarding the rights of qualified applicants seeking admission into accredited institutions.
