‘Minority bench once led by respected leaders now bastardised by a noisemaker’ – Sammy Gyamfi slams Afenyo-Markin

Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi has criticised Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, accusing him of lowering the standard of the Minority bench in Parliament.

He was responding to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s claims about a $1.7 billion loss at GoldBod and suggesting a burdensome bail term for Gyamfi.

He spoke during his turn as part of the Government Accountability Series today, Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Mr Gyamfi said he expected better from someone occupying a position previously held by what he described as respected parliamentary leaders.

He said the current Minority Leader’s conduct contrasted sharply with those who previously occupied the position.

“I will go to prison in his brain and have onerous bail terms in his brain. I'm not afraid of any intimidation tactics because we are serving Ghana in good conscience and our results and posterity will speak for us,” Mr Gyamfi said in response to Mr Afenyo-Markin’s comments about his possible arrest and bail conditions.

He then criticised the Minority Leader’s parliamentary record and approach to public debate.

Mr Gyamfi said he expected better from “someone occupying the seat once occupied by the venerable JH Mensah, the venerable Papa Owusu Ankomah, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.”

“Look at the depth and the substance of these personalities. When they rose to speak in Parliament, look at the command they commanded across the aisle,” he said.

He added: “And look at how this seat has now been so bastardised and depraved by a noisemaker, who cannot even read, research and get his facts right.”
