The mother of Abdul Salam, who was allegedly shot dead during a land dispute at Akwatialine in the Ashanti Region, has called for swift judicial action to ensure justice for her son.

The incident occurred on April 1, 2026, when a private developer, reportedly claiming ownership of the disputed land, arrived at the site with police officers and began demolishing structures.

During the confrontation, gunshots were allegedly fired, leading to Salam’s death and leaving several others injured.

The case was brought before the Asokore Mampong District Court, but proceedings were adjourned after both the prosecutor and the suspect failed to appear in court.

The matter has been rescheduled to May 4, 2026.

Speaking after the hearing, Salam’s mother, Madam Abiba Abubakar, described her late son as the family’s breadwinner and a central figure in their lives.

She said his death has left a significant void, noting that he had taken on a fatherly role in the family following the passing of her own father.

She appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for the Interior, and the Chief Justice to intervene and ensure that justice is served.

Meanwhile, a community leader on the disputed land, Abdul Wahab, also raised concerns about the handling of the case and called on authorities to take urgent steps to address the matter.

The incident has heightened tensions in the area, with residents urging swift action to prevent further escalation and ensure accountability.
